Microsoft pivots away from Mesh: what this means for your business, collaboration, and the future of mixed reality

If you’ve been building solutions on Microsoft’s Mesh platform (yes, that includes us), the past year’s developments have no doubt been jarring. In a move that marks the end of a bold chapter in its mixed-reality ambitions, Microsoft has announced the retirement of its Mesh platform — a suite of technologies designed to enable shared 3D virtual environments for enterprise collaboration.

From Metaverse Dreams to AI Reality

The landscape of immersive technology is shifting. What once captured the imagination — the metaverse, Web 3.0, and expansive virtual collaboration — is now giving way to more immediate priorities like AI-driven productivity and hybrid work solutions. As businesses recalibrate toward in-person engagement and AI continues to dominate strategic conversations, platforms like Mesh have found it increasingly difficult to maintain their foothold in enterprise settings.

The Mesh Toolkit was officially retired on June 24, 2025. By December 1, Microsoft will shut down the Mesh PC and Quest apps, the mesh.cloud.microsoft site, and the Immersive Space view in Teams. In its place, Microsoft is rolling out Teams Immersive — a more streamlined offering focused on small-group 3D meetings for brainstorming, scrums, and casual collaboration.

Here’s the key insight: the need for immersive, engaging, and human-centered digital experiences hasn’t gone away. If anything, it’s growing stronger.

Mesh Was a Catalyst — Not a Conclusion

Mesh introduced a powerful vision: shared 3D environments where people could collaborate, learn, and connect beyond the limitations of physical space. While Microsoft’s enterprise ambitions didn’t fully materialize, the technology laid the groundwork for what’s next.

We’ve built on that foundation — and we’re not stopping.

Our Mesh-based solutions go beyond the toolkit. We create custom immersive experiences that serve real business needs: onboarding, training, virtual showrooms, hybrid events, and more. These aren’t just digital replicas — they’re strategic environments designed to drive engagement, retention, and innovation.

The Future Is Still Immersive — Just Smarter

With Microsoft shifting focus to “Teams immersive,” many organizations are left wondering what’s next. We’re here to answer that.

Mixed reality isn’t dead. It’s being refined. And we’re embracing that evolution with open arms. Our approach is platform-agnostic and experience-first. Whether it’s leveraging Mesh’s legacy capabilities or integrating with new immersive tools, we help clients stay ahead — not just keep up.

We’re already working with partners to transition from Mesh to scalable alternatives that preserve the immersive value while aligning with evolving tech ecosystems.

As AI reshapes how we work, immersive experiences will become more intelligent, personalized, and context-aware. We’re excited to be part of that transformation — helping clients blend the best of spatial computing with the power of data and design.

🚀 Let’s shape what’s next — together.
